Lewis Anderson Banks Arrested for Purse Theft in Lynchburg

Suspect charged with grand larceny; held without bond

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A 45-year-old Lynchburg man has been arrested after a purse was stolen from a shopping cart in a store parking lot on Sunday.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD), officers responded at around 11:20 a.m. to a report of theft in the 7800 block of Timberlake Road. A woman had been loading groceries into her vehicle when a man suddenly grabbed her purse from the shopping cart and fled on foot.

Officers quickly responded and arrested the suspect within minutes, identifying him as Lewis Anderson Banks. He now faces a charge of Grand Larceny under Virginia Code 18.2-95.

Banks is currently being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

The LPD urges the public to stay alert while shopping alone and to secure valuable items before unloading carts.
