JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. — A man is facing felony charges after a routine traffic stop turned into a drug and weapons arrest early Sunday morning.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Lerone McWilliams was pulled over on August 24 after deputies observed his vehicle commit a traffic violation.

During the stop, a K-9 officer conducted a search of the vehicle and uncovered methamphetamine and an illegal “slap-jack” style weapon — a compact, weighted device considered unlawful in Illinois.

McWilliams was arrested at the scene and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. He is formally charged with:

Unlawful possession of methamphetamine

Unlawful use of weapons

No additional details have been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
