Leicester Men Jailed for Horrific Crimes, Including Rape and Fraud
Four men involved in a range of serious crimes, including rape, knifepoint robberies, and fraud, were sentenced in Leicester in July. These criminals targeted vulnerable individuals, committed violent crimes, and caused devastation to families and communities.
Rapists Sentenced for Brutal Attacks on Women and Children
Among those sentenced were four men, including Jagdeep Singh, Aluwas Razak, Altaf Khalifa, and Carl Hamilton, who all received significant prison terms for committing violent sexual offenses against women and girls.
Jagdeep Singh, 35, was jailed for 8 years for raping a 21-year-old woman while she waited for an ambulance in Leicester. The victim’s 999 call alerted police to Singh’s actions, and he was arrested after the victim reported the crime. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Aluwas Razak, 30, of Leicester, was sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl in Leicester city center. Razak, who bought the girl alcohol and food before assaulting her, was arrested after CCTV footage led police to identify him.
Altaf Khalifa, 42, had been on the run for two years after committing multiple sexual offenses against two girls aged 8 to 15 between 2016 and 2019. His crimes, which led to one of the victims taking her own life, were uncovered when he was arrested in 2019. Khalifa fled the UK on bail, but was tracked down in Spain and extradited back to the UK to face justice. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Robberies and Fraud: Crime Syndicates Exposed
In addition to these shocking cases, Seye Djli, 24, was sentenced to 4 years for committing eight knifepoint robberies in Leicester, where victims were threatened with knives and several mobile phones were stolen. Police recovered stolen phones, bank cards, and a knife during his arrest.
Meanwhile, Nevada Smith, a serial fraudster, was jailed for his involvement in targeting vulnerable pensioners. Smith, who operated from his caravan parks and home-selling schemes, defrauded elderly victims of large sums of money, leaving many out of pocket and in some cases, without compensation before they passed away.
Drug Dealers and County Lines Operation Exposed
A separate case involving a County Lines drug operation saw three men jailed for selling Class A drugs to over 200 users in the Loughborough area. Travis Woolnough, Dipesh Patel, and Charlie Shak were arrested as part of a national crackdown on County Lines, a practice where city-based drug dealers target smaller towns and exploit vulnerable people.
Travis Woolnough, 21, was sentenced to 3 years, while Dipesh Patel, also 21, received 3 years and 4 months, and Charlie Shak, 48, was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months. The men used phones to offer heroin and crack cocaine to users in Loughborough, running their operation from multiple locations.
A Reckoning for Dangerous Offenders
The sentencing of these offenders serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of crime on communities and vulnerable individuals. Leicestershire Police have pledged to continue their efforts to bring such criminals to justice and ensure they face the consequences of their actions.
