Leicester (WDEF) — Lukasz Albert Strag, a 44-year-old drug kingpin from Leicester, has died while serving a 20-year sentence for his role in an international drug trafficking operation. Strag, who was known by the nickname “Roztrzepany,” passed away at West Heath Hospital in Birmingham on January 26, 2025.
Strag had been incarcerated at HMP Birmingham, where he was serving time for smuggling large quantities of Class A drugs between Europe and the UK. His operation involved trafficking cocaine, MDMA, cannabis, and amphetamines from Poland, Spain, and the Netherlands to the UK.
Following his conviction at Birmingham Crown Court, Strag was ordered to repay over £1.3 million of his criminal earnings. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has launched an investigation into his death, and an inquest was opened at Birmingham & Solihull Coroner’s Court on January 30. The final inquest hearing is scheduled for July 14, 2025.
A Prison Service spokesperson confirmed Strag’s death in custody, stating that all deaths in custody are investigated by the Ombudsman. Further details on the circumstances surrounding his death have yet to be released.
