Over 200 duped with fake interviews, forged IDs at ministry

In a major breakthrough, police have arrested Lawrence Henry, the alleged mastermind behind a job scam targeting over 200 youth across Maharashtra by promising bogus government employment at Mantralaya, the state’s administrative headquarters.

According to officials, Henry operated the fraudulent scheme with the help of six accomplices, using forged identity cards, fake nameplates, and even conducting interviews and medical checks inside Mantralaya premises to deceive victims into believing the offers were legitimate.

Victims were told they had cleared government job procedures.

They were called to Mantralaya for phony interviews and fake medical tests.

Scammers used doctored credentials and unauthorized access to ministry offices.

Victims paid large sums believing they had secured official employment.

Police sources said the scam targeted young job seekers, with complaints pouring in from multiple districts across the state. Henry and his associates are accused of creating an elaborate setup that mimicked real government recruitment processes.

So far, over 200 victims have been identified.

Multiple FIRs have been filed across Maharashtra.

Authorities are probing whether any internal staff enabled access to Mantralaya facilities.

The operation is being treated as organized crime, and more arrests are expected.

“This wasn’t a simple con — it was a highly coordinated operation that used official-looking infrastructure to gain the trust of aspirants,” said a senior police official.

Law enforcement agencies have launched a statewide crackdown to identify all victims and recover money. Police are also exploring digital payment trails and forged documentation to build a watertight case.
