The Hammond Police Department’s Narcotics Division arrested 28-year-old Lavon Lizana Jr. of Albany on July 16 during an operation targeting illegal narcotics activity near a local Hammond casino.

Detectives observed Lizana arrive at the casino, known for drug activity, and approached his vehicle. Although Lizana initially resisted arrest, officers successfully detained him without further incident.

A search of Lizana’s vehicle uncovered a significant cache of illegal substances, including approximately 382 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 52 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, nearly 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and 195.5 grams of suspected marijuana. Additional items seized included two bottles of promethazine, 26 sealed packages of suboxone, 73 doses of suspected Xanax, two loaded handguns, two bottles of cutting agent, and a digital scale.

Further investigation revealed that Lizana is a convicted felon currently on parole for previous narcotics offenses. Police confirmed the case will be referred to federal authorities for potential prosecution.

In a press statement, the Hammond Police Department emphasized the dangers posed by fentanyl-laced narcotics and reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug trafficking and related crimes in the community.

Authorities reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
