A 45-year-old Sanford woman, Lashawnda Simone Stokes, was indicted on March 10, 2024, facing felony larceny by employee charges after allegedly stealing 60 lottery tickets from her employer, Circle K. The incident was discovered by authorities, leading to her indictment.
Stokes, who resides on the 400 block of Zimmerman Road, was initially granted a $2,000 unsecured bond. However, after failing to appear in court on June 13, 2024, her bond was increased to $4,000. This new bond was paid by Tammy Benson, who offered her property valued at $70,900 as collateral.
Stokes is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on May 12, 2024.
Previous Criminal History
This isn’t Stokes’ first run-in with the law. In 2012, she was convicted of misdemeanor larceny for stealing $7,970 from Kroger in Durham. Stokes was also found guilty of probation violations multiple times in the years that followed, including in 2012, 2013, and 2015.
On April 20, 2024, District Court Judge Brian C. Wilks authorized $8,000 from Stokes’ previous case to be sent for debt collection.
Stokes now faces serious felony charges and is under continued investigation for embezzlement.
