MASON, Ohio — A Mason woman has been convicted of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from multiple booster organizations, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
44-year-old Laquita Miller was found guilty in Warren County Common Pleas Court of felony theft and telecommunications fraud charges.
Prosecutors said Miller abused her roles with local school booster clubs, including as a fundraiser organizer for the Mason Football Boosters and treasurer of the Mason Cheer Boosters, to access banking information and withdraw large sums of money.
Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell said Miller had been active in several parent and booster organizations and “appears to have created financial or other havoc in every one.”
Fornshell noted that booster groups, which rely heavily on volunteers, are often vulnerable to internal theft.
He also announced a training session titled “Protecting Your Organization From Internal Theft” to help local leaders and nonprofits prevent similar crimes. The event will take place Nov. 19 at the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, and interested parties can contact the office at 513-695-1325 for more information.
Miller’s sentencing will be scheduled after a pre-sentence investigation is completed.
