CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO — A 22-year-old Jackson man, Landon Bellew, was arrested on Saturday, August 9, after leading authorities on a high-speed chase in a stolen car while driving with a revoked license and possessing a loaded AR-15 rifle.
Deputies from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office spotted Bellew driving a Ford Mustang with Missouri license plates registered to a 2015 BMW. The plates were flagged as stolen on June 30, prompting deputies to initiate a traffic stop on Broadway Street.
Instead of stopping, Bellew accelerated onto Kingshighway, weaving through traffic at high speeds before finally stopping at Kidd’s Gas Station.
When questioned, Bellew told officers he had recently purchased the Mustang and that the stolen plates were put on the car by someone named Ty Ladd. The previous owner confirmed he sold the car without license plates.
Authorities also confirmed that Bellew’s driver’s license was revoked under a five-year denial, with two prior DWIs and a conviction for driving while revoked.
Upon searching the vehicle—with Bellew’s consent—officers recovered a loaded AR-15 rifle with a 60-round magazine in the backseat. Bellew also admitted to being addicted to fentanyl, warning officers he might experience withdrawal symptoms in jail.
Additionally, records show Bellew was under a full order of protection, adding to the severity of his legal troubles.
He is currently held at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
