BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2023 fatal shooting of 21-year-old Tiwan Wilson, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday.
Lamont Johnson was handed a 60-year sentence, with all but 40 years suspended, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence.
As part of the sentence, Johnson is required to undergo mental health treatment and has been referred to the Patuxent Institute’s Eligible Persons Program, which offers rehabilitative services to eligible inmates.
The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. on August 4, 2023, in the 300 block of S. Calhoun Street. Responding officers found Wilson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Shock Trauma Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m.
At the crime scene, investigators recovered seven 9mm shell casings, an extended magazine with 21 rounds, and Wilson’s vehicle. Surveillance footage revealed that Johnson arrived at the scene, witnessed his wife embracing Wilson, retrieved a gun from his trunk, and opened fire after a brief exchange.
Johnson remained on the run for more than a year until his arrest in September 2024 after fleeing from police on N. Longwood Street. A handgun was found along his escape route.
He later pleaded guilty in a separate firearms case and received a five-year sentence, to be served concurrently with the murder sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Rita Wisthoff-Ito, with Homicide Unit Chief Michael Dunty overseeing sentencing.
