DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A man wanted in a decade-old animal cruelty case in Pennsylvania has been arrested in New York after being flagged while returning from the Caribbean.
Lamont Harris, 49, formerly of Middletown, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody on July 31 at John F. Kennedy International Airport on an outstanding warrant issued by the Lower Swatara Township Police Department.
The case dates back to November 11, 2013, when police responded to a call about a dog found bound and dumped in Swatara Creek near the Vine Street Bridge. Construction workers discovered the injured animal and took it to a nearby veterinary hospital, where it was determined the dog had suffered multiple injuries.
Following an investigation, Harris was identified as a suspect and charged with two counts of animal cruelty. However, he had evaded capture until his recent arrival on a flight from the Caribbean, when authorities flagged the warrant.
Harris is currently being held in New York and awaits extradition to Pennsylvania to face charges.
