A 27-year-old man, Lamar Brooks, was arrested on Saturday evening in connection with a robbery that took place early Saturday morning at a convenience store in New Iberia, Louisiana. Brooks faces a charge of Simple Robbery after police identified him as the suspect.
According to the New Iberia Police Department, the robbery occurred around 3:30 a.m. on January 11 at a convenience store located on the 1200 block of East Admiral Doyle Drive. Brooks entered the store, approached the clerk, struck the clerk behind the head, and demanded money. He then fled the scene with approximately $300 in cash and $350 worth of cigarettes.
Police were able to identify Brooks after reviewing surveillance footage from the store. Following the identification, officers searched multiple locations in an attempt to locate the suspect. Later that evening, Brooks was found at a residence on Courrege Street. When officers arrived, Brooks attempted to flee but was quickly pursued and apprehended by law enforcement.
A search of the residence revealed clothing matching the description of what Brooks had worn during the robbery, as well as items taken from the store.
Brooks was booked into the Iberia Parish jail and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
