A recent scam involving the Lake Queen Cruise at Ramgarh Lake in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, has led to the arrest of two individuals, Rajan Sahni and Shivam Nishad. The two youths were arrested for duping the cruise owners after they managed to book four tickets, originally priced at Rs 12,000, for just Re 1 per booking through an online platform.
The scam was uncovered when Rajkumar Rai, the cruise owner, filed a complaint on Thursday. Rai explained that while the cruise offers both online and offline booking options, the tickets were fraudulently booked under the name of Rajan Kumar for a special New Year’s Eve celebration, where the ticket price per person was Rs 3,000. This amount was significantly higher than the regular rate of Rs 1,000.
According to Circle Officer Yogendra Singh, the booking was made for the prime-time celebration event on New Year’s Eve, which was scheduled from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The cruise owners were shocked when the fraud came to light and immediately filed a police complaint.
The police acted quickly, arresting Rajan Sahni and Shivam Nishad. During their arrest, a laptop, two mobile phones, and four tickets were seized from the suspects. The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 319(2), 318(4), 336 (3), 338, and 340(2), along with Sections 43 and 66D of the Information Technology Act.
Authorities are investigating further to identify any additional individuals involved and to improve the cruise’s booking security system to prevent future scams.
