NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. — A New Hanover County man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for drug trafficking offenses.
23-year-old Kymeek Quincy Rodney pled guilty to two counts of trafficking opium or heroin, according to the North Carolina District Attorney. Rodney was arrested in February 2024 after a traffic stop revealed fentanyl-laced pills and a firearm in his possession.
A subsequent search of his home uncovered over an ounce of cocaine. Rodney was charged alongside Zymene Ballard, who is currently serving a nine-year sentence following the resolution of his case in July 2025.
District Attorney Jason W. Smith emphasized the dangers of fentanyl, stating, “Even a portion of one of these fentanyl-laced pills can be deadly. Fentanyl itself is extremely addictive, and those who sell, deliver, or help others profit from fentanyl will be prosecuted without hesitation.”
Rodney was sentenced to 85 months in prison and fined $50,000.
