Two men were arrested following a high-speed chase and foot pursuit connected to an alleged prison contraband drop in Atmore, authorities said.
According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, a K-9 team at Fountain Correctional Facility received information about a vehicle that had driven past the prison and thrown a package containing contraband over the fence into the prison yard.
When officers attempted to stop a vehicle matching the description, the driver sped away, reportedly forcing other vehicles off the road. The chase continued onto Interstate 65, where suspects allegedly tossed additional contraband from the vehicle. The pursuit ended near Exit 107 when the vehicle reached a dead-end road and both occupants fled into the woods.
The suspects, identified as Kyle Wesley Turner, 26, and John Deodrick Bullock, 36, were captured and taken to the Escambia County Detention Center.
Authorities recovered the discarded contraband and seized a firearm from the vehicle. A package retrieved from the prison yard contained approximately 244 grams of marijuana, 120 grams of methamphetamine, $1,000 in cash, a knife, and two USB charging cords.
Turner and Bullock face charges including first- and second-degree promoting prison contraband, marijuana possession, trafficking methamphetamine, distributing methamphetamine, and distributing marijuana. Turner is also charged with attempting to elude law enforcement.
Multiple agencies assisted in the pursuit, and officials say the investigation remains ongoing with additional charges possible.
