ALPENA COUNTY — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post arrested a 38-year-old Alpena man following a retail fraud incident and foot chase at a Walmart on Feb. 19.
Kyle Schram was reportedly observed removing security tags from merchandise and placing the items in his shopping cart before exiting the store without paying. When contacted by troopers, Schram allegedly pushed a shopping cart into a trooper and fled on foot across the parking lot.
After a brief pursuit and struggle, Schram was taken into custody. During a search, troopers discovered suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl in his pocket.
Schram was lodged without incident at the Alpena County Jail and arraigned on Feb. 23 in the 88th District Court. He faces multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine or ecstasy, possession of a narcotic or cocaine under 25 grams, first-degree retail fraud, and assault, resisting, or obstructing a police officer.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on March 11.
