On September 11, 2008, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch Narcotics unit arrested 40-year-old Kusum, a resident of E Block in Sultanpuri, Outer Delhi, for allegedly running a local smack supply operation.
According to police, Kusum became involved in the drug trade out of desperation. Her husband, Manoj, was unemployed and consumed smack daily, leaving the family financially crippled.
Facing mounting pressure to feed and care for her four children, Kusum sought out Manoj’s drug supplier and began distributing narcotics in the neighborhood.
Her arrest highlights the grim reality many women face in marginalized communities—where poverty, addiction, and lack of opportunity can push individuals toward crime.
The case remains under investigation by the Narcotics unit as authorities work to trace the broader network involved in local drug distribution.
