Patna: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Bihar Police seized heroin worth Rs69 lakh and arrested five alleged drug traffickers in coordinated operations in Darbhanga and Patna.
According to officials, the first operation was conducted in the Sadar police station area of Darbhanga, where Kundan Kumar, Deepu Kumar, and Ratnesh Kumar—all residents of East Champaran—were apprehended. Police recovered 228 grams of heroin packed in 18 small packets, valued at Rs45.6 lakh, along with mobile phones and cash.
During interrogation, investigators uncovered links to an interstate drug network. The heroin was allegedly sourced from Assam, with Pawan Singh Bhumihar, based in Guwahati, identified as the supplier. The consignment was intended for a receiver in Patna.
Acting on this lead, a joint team of STF, Narcotics Cell, and district police carried out a second raid in Patna’s Shahpur area. Two more accused—Manish Kumar Singh and Kanhaiya Kumar—were arrested from a residential flat. Police seized an additional 117 grams of heroin worth Rs23.4 lakh, along with mobile phones, a vehicle, and gold rings.
Officials revealed that some of the accused have prior criminal records under the NDPS Act and other offences. The network is believed to operate across Bihar, Assam, and other states, indicating a well-organised supply chain.
The arrests highlight a growing concern over the spread of narcotics in Bihar, where heroin and opium seizures have risen sharply in recent years despite strict prohibition laws.
All accused have been handed over to local police stations for further legal action, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network.
