Cybercriminals in Bihar are getting bolder and more creative. In a recent case, a group of fraudsters posing as ‘call boys’ and spiritual healers was busted by Patna Police for running an elaborate online scam.
The three accused, all from Nalanda district, were arrested from a rented house in Patna, where they operated the scam under the disguise of offering Kerala lottery tips, Vashikaran Baba services, and call boy services through online advertisements.
The accused used these ads to lure people. Once a victim called the numbers provided, they were drawn in with false promises and cheated of their money. Police confirmed that the trio was part of an organized cyber fraud gang.
“As part of an ongoing crackdown on cybercriminals, a special team raided a house on the second floor of Babita Devi’s property at Sorangpur Devi Sthan Road, under Ramakrishna Nagar police station in Phulwarisharif block,” said a senior Cyber Cell officer.
During the raid, police arrested three suspects and seized 13 mobile phones, 2 laptops, 15 ATM cards, and Rs22,700 in cash.

A case has been registered at the Patna Cyber Police Station, and all three have been sent to judicial custody after being produced in court.
Police believe the gang followed the modus operandi of Jharkhand’s infamous ‘Jamtara module’, which uses social engineering and phishing to defraud victims. Investigations are ongoing to track other gang members and financial transactions.
Officials warn that districts like Nalanda, Nawada, and Gaya have emerged as hotspots for cybercrime activity in Bihar.
