In a major breakthrough, Kudiyamala police arrested two friends of Prajul V V, who was found dead in a pond last month. The accused, Mithilal (26) of Pothukund, Naduvil, and Shakkir (36), a native of Naduvil, were taken into custody on Wednesday.
Police reports state that Prajul, 30, was attacked by the accused during a drunken altercation on September 22. Under the influence of alcohol, the accused allegedly dumped Prajul’s body in a pond on private land in Kudiyanmala, Alakkode, Kannur. His body was discovered by locals and relatives after an extensive search on September 23.
Earlier, the incident was assumed to be an accidental drowning. However, the autopsy revealed serious injuries caused by a brutal assault before death. Police investigations revealed that Mithilal, who had been arrested months ago for possession of ganja by the excise department, suspected Prajul of leaking information to authorities, which may have provoked the attack.
Upon interrogation, both Mithilal and Shakkir confessed to their involvement in the crime. The police continue to investigate the case further.
