Fannin County, Texas — Following a thorough audit of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, records clerk Krystal Wilson was indicted on June 26, 2025, for First Degree Felony Theft after nearly $230,000 was found missing.
The audit was initiated after Sheriff Cody Shook took office on January 1, 2025, aiming to ensure public trust in local law enforcement. During the internal review, investigators discovered discrepancies in funds linked to inmate accounts and third-party transactions.
The investigation concluded that Wilson was responsible for the missing funds, believed to have been taken between May 2021 and May 2025.
“Wilson was immediately removed from her duties, and access to county systems and facilities was restricted,” Sheriff Shook confirmed.
The criminal probe, conducted by the Texas Rangers at Sheriff Shook’s request, resulted in a grand jury indictment on June 26. Wilson later surrendered and was booked into Collin County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Sheriff Shook expressed gratitude for the collaboration between the Sheriff’s Office, Criminal District Attorney, County Auditor, Texas Rangers, La Salie Corrections, and other agencies involved.
He also assured residents that a financial plan is in place to cover the loss without impacting taxpayers. “County operations and services remain fully funded and unaffected. We are committed to accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public resources.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that Wilson’s actions do not represent the department’s values. For inquiries, contact the Sheriff’s Office Administration at 903-583-2143. Questions about the criminal case should be directed to the Texas Rangers.
Wilson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
