The notorious fake passport scandal involving film actress Monica Bedi has once again come under the spotlight following the arrest of Jagan’s OSD Krishnamohan Reddy in a liquor scam.
Krishnamohan Reddy, who was then the Tahsildar of Kurnool in 2001, had issued a fraudulent residence certificate in the name of Sana Malik Kamal, falsely claiming actress Monica Bedi’s residence at Babu Gounda Street, Kurnool. This certificate was instrumental in Monica Bedi obtaining a passport under a fake identity. In 2002, she fled to Portugal with Abu Salem, a key accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts and various sedition cases, before being apprehended by Portuguese authorities.
The initial investigation began with the Kurnool Police but was later taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Krishnamohan Reddy stated that he issued the certificate based on a report from Revenue Inspector Mohammad Younis. Though he had previously evaded arrest, his recent detention in the liquor scam has revived scrutiny on his involvement in the passport fraud.
At the time, PSR Anjaneyulu served as Kurnool’s Superintendent of Police (SP), issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the passport based on field reports. His successor, N. Sanjay, faced criticism for not taking swift action when the scam came to light in August 2002. Sanjay has since been suspended over unrelated corruption charges.
PSR Anjaneyulu is currently jailed for his alleged role in the Mumbai actress Kadambari Jethwani case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had earlier charged Sanjay with financial irregularities during his tenure under the Jagan administration.
The renewed arrest of Krishnamohan Reddy has brought fresh attention to the Monica Bedi passport scam. Several others, including Abu Salem, Monica Bedi, Kurnool Revenue Inspector Mohammad Younis, and ASI Sattar, were convicted in the case by a local court.
