The Delhi Police have arrested three individuals, including the alleged mastermind, in connection with a Rs39.5 lakh cryptocurrency investment fraud, where a city businessman was lured into a fake scheme with the promise of high returns.
The accused have been identified as:
Krishan Kumar alias Monu (42), a resident of Paharganj
Deepu (32), from Gopalpur
Md Irfan Sheikh (31), from GTB Enclave
According to officials, the victim is a 47-year-old stationery shop owner from Mahendru Enclave. He was approached by the accused with an offer to invest in cryptocurrency through a fraudulent platform, claiming he would earn substantial profits in a short period.
Enticed by the false assurances, the businessman transferred Rs39.5 lakh to the scammers over a period of time. When he stopped receiving any returns and noticed suspicious behavior, he approached the police.
A senior police officer stated, “The accused created a fake crypto trading interface to gain the victim’s trust. Once the funds were transferred, they stopped responding.”
The police investigation led to the identification and arrest of the accused trio. Authorities are now examining their digital footprints and financial transactions to trace other possible victims and the full extent of the fraud.
