Poinciana High School Lockdown Sparks Arrest of Kori McBride
Poinciana High School in Kissimmee, Florida, was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a “suspicious incident” involving 18-year-old Kori McBride. According to Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, the situation unfolded after McBride was called to the office by the school dean due to concerns about him smelling of marijuana.
During a search of McBride’s bag, the dean noticed something heavy and metallic. McBride then fled the campus with his backpack, which led to the immediate lockdown of the school. Law enforcement quickly responded, finding McBride off-campus. They were tipped off by a witness who saw him hide something in nearby bushes. Officers recovered a handgun wrapped in a sweater, which McBride admitted was his.
McBride faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon on school property, carrying a concealed firearm, disruption of school functions, and marijuana possession. Sheriff Lopez emphasized the importance of parents monitoring what their children bring to school, stating, “Thank God, no one was hurt.”
This incident highlights growing concerns over safety in schools across the country, with law enforcement in Osceola County taking a firm stance on such matters. McBride was arrested without further incident, and the lockdown was lifted after the situation was resolved.
