Kolkata Police have arrested 26-year-old Pinky Roy from Asansol for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, cash, and documents from a Bihar couple, officials said on Wednesday. The stolen items have been recovered.
The couple, who boarded a bus at Mahajati Sadan in North Kolkata, discovered their bag missing after getting off. The stolen items included two gold bangles, a necklace, a bracelet (total 53 grams), Rs 25,000 in cash, and an Aadhaar card.
The complaint was filed on January 22 by Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Katihar district, at Girish Park police station. Acting quickly, police traced and arrested Pinky Roy late Tuesday night.
After questioning, authorities recovered the money, gold jewellery, and documents. The accused will be produced in court on February 5.
A senior Kolkata Police officer said, “The promptness of our officers helped catch the accused successfully. The theft occurred on the bus, and after days of investigation, the young woman was arrested and the stolen items recovered.”
Police are also investigating whether Pinky Roy acted alone or was part of a larger operation and are reviewing if similar thefts occurred in the past using comparable methods.
