Kolkata Firm Owner Arundhati Roy Chowdhury Arrested in Drug Racket

A major drug racket was uncovered in Kolkata after authorities seized spurious drugs worth around Rs6.6 crore from a wholesale firm. The raid was carried out on Monday at Care and Cure For You, located in South Kolkata. Investigators believe the drugs, which include fake and substandard injections, were being sold online as part of a larger operation.

The firm’s owner, Arundhati Roy Chowdhury, was arrested on Tuesday after a joint operation between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the Drugs Control Directorate of West Bengal. The raids, which began on December 17, targeted the firm’s godown in Bhawanipore and Chowdhury’s residence in Lake Market. Authorities discovered vials of fake or low-quality injections, each worth between Rs2-3 lakh.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities suspecting the drugs may have been sold through online platforms. The seizure and arrest highlight the growing concern over the sale of counterfeit medicines in the region.
