In a major blow to the drug trade, the Kolar CEN Police arrested Syed Purkhan and seized 806 grams of MDMA, valued at over Rs50 lakh. The police also confiscated the two-wheeler used by Syed in his drug peddling activities. This operation was led by Kolar Superintendent of Police Nikhil B, highlighting the increasing threat posed by drug peddlers targeting industrial suburbs and college-going youth in the region.
The investigation began last month after the arrest of Shivu, who was found in possession of 50 grams of MDMA. As police dug deeper, they uncovered a network of anti-social elements targeting working-class youth in industrial areas and college students to distribute narcotics.
The investigation traced the source of the drugs to Syed Purkhan, a peddler from Soladevanahalli, Bengaluru, who was sourcing MDMA from Nigerian suppliers at a low cost and selling it for a profit in and around Kolar. On March 12, police apprehended Syed near Maderahalli, along the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway, and seized 806 grams of MDMA.
SP Nikhil mentioned that such ecstasy drugs, typically confined to larger cities like Bengaluru and Mangaluru, had now made their way into Kolar, marking this seizure as one of the largest drug busts in the district. Syed’s arrest has disrupted a significant link in the drug supply chain, and police are now intensifying their efforts to track down the kingpin behind the operation.
