In a significant achievement, Kodagu police have dismantled a major international drug trafficking network, arresting seven individuals from various regions. Kodagu’s SP, Ramarajan K, confirmed that the operation led to the seizure of 3 kg 31 grams of hydro ganja, valued at an estimated Rs. 3 crores. The police also confiscated a vehicle used in the illegal trade.

The arrested suspects include Nasiruddin M.U. (26) from Gundigere Heggala Village, Akanas (26) from Kunjila Village, Yahya C.H. (28) from Edapala Village, Wajeed (26) from Betoli Village in Kodagu, and Riyaz (44) from Kallithea Village in Kerala’s Kannur district. The arrests were part of a collaborative effort between Kodagu and Kerala police forces.

The ringleader, Mehroof (37) from Kasaragod, was caught at Cochin Airport by Kerala’s Ernakulam District SP Viabhav Sakshena, Cochin Airport Immigration Officer Krishnaraj, and Madikeri Rural Circle Inspector Anoop Madappa, while attempting to flee to Bangkok.

This case is notable because hydro ganja, a stronger and costlier form of cannabis, was involved. According to SP Ramarajan K, hydro ganja is cultivated using artificial light and water in controlled, air-conditioned environments.

One of the accused, Yahya, had smuggled the hydro ganja from Bangkok into India on September 23, 2024, as part of a broader international smuggling operation.

The investigation was carried out under the supervision of Additional SP Sundar Raj, with Madikeri DYSP Mahesh Kumar and Circle Inspector Raju P.K. leading the team.
