KNOXVILLE, IA – A Knoxville man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing an electric bike from a local residence in late 2024.

According to court documents, Mark Tollenaar, 35, was arrested this week and charged with Theft in the Second Degree, a Class D felony, in connection with the theft of a $1,600 ebike.

The incident occurred on December 14, 2024, around 5:45 p.m., when a Knoxville Police Officer responded to a theft report at an apartment. The victim told police she had prepared a meal for Tollenaar and then went to rest. Shortly afterward, she heard movement and discovered her ebike missing from a bedroom.

Two witnesses reported seeing Tollenaar leave the apartment building with the bike. A relative at Tollenaar’s residence also confirmed recently seeing him with a black ebike. The victim provided a proof of purchase from June 2024 confirming the bike’s value.

Tollenaar has been formally charged and the case is pending in court.
