JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 60-year-old Duval County jail inmate, Kimberly Statum, is now facing murder charges after she set a man on fire, leading to his death a month later.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), Statum was initially arrested in November 2024 and charged with attempted murder after a 67-year-old man was found severely burned inside a home on Alexandra Drive in the Biscayne area.

The victim was immediately transported to a specialized burn unit in Gainesville, where he fought for his life for weeks. Sadly, in December, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide, prompting JSO investigators to review the case with renewed urgency.

After revisiting the case and compiling additional evidence, the findings were presented to the State Attorney’s Office, leading to escalated charges against Statum. In addition to murder, she now faces arson charges.

Statum remains incarcerated at Duval County Jail without the possibility of bail.
