Killer Mike Sues Security Company Over “False Arrest” at Grammy Awards

Rapper claims security’s actions led to embarrassment, harm, and missed appearance

One year after a controversial backstage arrest at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, rapper Killer Mike is taking legal action against the security company responsible for the incident. The rapper, who won multiple Grammy awards including Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album, is suing S & S Labor Force for what he calls a “false arrest” during the star-studded event.

Killer Mike was detained by security personnel and escorted out of the venue in handcuffs, leading to his booking by the police on charges of misdemeanor battery. However, no charges were ultimately filed against him. At the time, Killer Mike attributed the situation to confusion within his team about where they should collect his awards, along with an “over-zealous security guard” who escalated the situation.

Now, in his lawsuit, Killer Mike is accusing S & S Labor Force of overstepping their duties, alleging that their actions led to his “degradation, embarrassment, and physical harm,” as well as “unnecessary public embarrassment, distress, and professional damage.” He claims that the female security guard was responsible for his “false arrest” and for keeping him in jail throughout the Grammy ceremony, which prevented him from appearing on live television in front of a massive global audience.

The rapper further alleges that the guard used excessive force while restraining him, claiming that he was “physically assaulted and battered” when she grabbed his arm to prevent him from leaving. The lawsuit includes several claims, such as false arrest, assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence.

In response, S & S Labor Force, which had previously stated that Killer Mike had pushed the security guard, has dismissed the lawsuit as “unfounded.”
