A Terre Haute man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a Dollar General store in northern Vigo County, according to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.
Kibwe Maloba, 27, is facing multiple charges, including robbery, battery against a public safety official, resisting law enforcement, theft, and criminal mischief.
Deputies were dispatched to the store at 5781 N. Clinton Road around 4:18 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a robbery. Dispatch informed officers that the suspect had brandished a knife and was seen heading south on Clinton Road while pushing a cart filled with stolen merchandise.
A responding deputy spotted the suspect and attempted to issue commands. When the suspect failed to comply, the deputy deployed a Taser. A physical altercation followed, during which the suspect struck the deputy in the face.
Additional deputies soon arrived and assisted in subduing and arresting the suspect. Both the deputy and Maloba sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The deputy was later released.
The case remains under investigation as Maloba remains in custody.
