In a coordinated crackdown across Agartala on Friday, Tripura Police arrested eight individuals linked to theft and snatching cases, recovering stolen goods including a motorcycle, generator batteries, and expensive sarees.
In East Agartala, a notorious motorcycle-borne snatching gang was busted following a complaint by a 69-year-old woman. The special operation, led by Officer-in-Charge Raja Chatterjee, resulted in the arrest of Khitish Sarkar, Binoy Sen, and Amit Debbarma.
Khitish Sarkar, a well-known repeat offender, had four pending arrest warrants and had evaded capture for several months. A stolen motorcycle with a tampered license plate, believed to be used in multiple crimes, was also recovered during the operation.
“We believe more individuals involved will be identified through interrogation,” said SDPO Sadar DP Ray, emphasizing the significance of Khitish Sarkar’s arrest.
In a separate operation, West Agartala Police apprehended five suspects—Amitabha Das, Piklu Barman, Kinkar Deb, Faruq Miah, and Titan Dey—connected to a theft at a local court complex. Investigators tracked them to Jaypur under Battala outpost jurisdiction and made the arrests.
In an additional raid, authorities seized 62 Banarasi sarees valued at approximately Rs3.5 lakh from the home of Aman Chowhan, suspected to be involved in further theft-related activities.
All accused have been produced before the court, and police are seeking remand for further questioning. Investigations are actively continuing in all cases.
