Khanna police have arrested Mohit, a wanted member of a gang involved in the August 14 temple heist at the Shivpuri temple. Mohit, from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after a tip-off, while three of his accomplices were previously detained. These include Resham Singh alias Rinku (32) of Uttarakhand, Ravi Kumar, and Honey of Ropar, who were arrested earlier. Additionally, Rajiv Kumar alias Soni, a jeweler from Lucknow, was arrested for buying the stolen silver.
The theft took place in the early hours of August 14 when the gang broke into the Shivpuri temple, stole 3.6 kg of silver, and vandalized idols before fleeing. The police recovered the stolen silver, a bike, and a rope used in the crime. Following the complaint by Subodh Mittal, an FIR was lodged and later expanded with additional charges as the investigation progressed.
Khanna Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukhamrit Singh Randhawa revealed that Mohit was already facing trials in at least 12 other criminal cases across states like Dehradun, Delhi, Shimla, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, and Karnataka. The gang had planned to target temples in Telangana and Tamil Nadu for more heists, specifically for gold and silver.
