Mahabad, Iran – Khabat Kardani, a 36-year-old Kurdish resident of the village of Gagashi near Mahabad, was arrested by Iran’s Intelligence Department on the evening of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, according to local human rights sources.
Witnesses told the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights that security agents detained Kardani without presenting a warrant or providing any explanation. Six days later, no official information has been released regarding his whereabouts, condition, or any charges brought against him.
Kardani’s family remains in the dark, anxiously awaiting updates. As of now, his arrest is considered arbitrary, raising serious concerns among rights groups over due process violations and enforced disappearance.
Hengaw and other organizations are urging Iranian authorities to disclose Kardani’s location and ensure he is allowed contact with his family and legal representation.
