SAN ANTONIO — Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with separate fatal shootings in east Bexar County earlier this year, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Keylow Kimenker, 19, was charged with capital murder in the January 14 shooting death of 39-year-old John Leonard, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced Thursday. A 17-year-old, whose name was not released due to his juvenile status, was also arrested in connection with Leonard’s death.
Deputies responded to the shooting around 8:40 p.m. at the 6800 block of Oldham Drive, where they found Leonard lying near a blue sedan with multiple gunshot wounds. Leonard was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests were made immediately following the incident.
Sheriff Salazar revealed that Kimenker was already in custody for a separate shooting that occurred on March 18. In that case, Kimenker allegedly shot and killed 40-year-old Paul Bussell near Chipping Drive and Oldham Drive. A witness reported seeing Kimenker firing at a silver van from behind. Bussell was found injured inside the crashed van and later died at the hospital.
Investigators said Kimenker forcibly took a firearm from Bussell during an intended gun sale meeting. Bussell had reported the incident and planned to meet with deputies the morning he was killed.
Kimenker was arrested for Bussell’s murder the following day and has been held in Bexar County jail since.
Sheriff Salazar described Kimenker as “brazen” with “no fear of consequences” due to the daylight nature of the shootings. The juvenile arrested with Kimenker is connected to a separate incident. Authorities believe two additional suspects remain at large.
