BRENTWOOD, Calif. – A San Jose man has been arrested following the brazen robbery of an ATM at a Brentwood bank on Thursday morning, authorities said.
Kevin Monge, 34, was taken into custody after an ATM cash safe was forcibly removed from the Bank of America on the 6200 block of Lone Tree Way.
Police were initially dispatched to the 5100 block of Heidorn Ranch Road near Highway 4 after reports of a suspicious situation involving a Jeep. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspects had fled the scene. It was soon confirmed that an ATM had been stolen from the nearby bank, with the cash box dragged along the highway corridor.
A short time later, officers received a tip about a matching vehicle sighting in the Deer Ridge area. With assistance from the Antioch Police Department and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, a perimeter was set up.
Monge was found hiding in a bush during the search and arrested. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and is facing grand theft and other related charges.
Authorities have not confirmed how many people were involved in the robbery, and no other suspects have been arrested at this time. It remains unclear whether the ATM or its contents were fully recovered.
