CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Charleston Police have arrested 29-year-old Kevin Laval Thompson from North Charleston in connection with a human trafficking case in the West Ashley area.
Thompson faces charges of trafficking a person, first offense, following a prostitution investigation led by Charleston Police Department detectives. Police say they found evidence that Thompson had forced a victim into prostitution, profiting from the illegal activity. The investigation began on Valentine’s Day when detectives identified a person as a trafficking victim and took immediate action to ensure their safety.
As the investigation progressed, authorities linked Thompson to the crime, confirming he had coerced the victim into prostitution for financial gain. Working alongside federal law enforcement, Charleston Police obtained a warrant for Thompson’s arrest. With help from the U.S. Marshals Service, Thompson was located and arrested late Sunday evening.
Thompson, who is already under supervision by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Pardon, and Parole, was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center with a $250,000 bond.
The Charleston Police Department’s investigation remains ongoing as they work to uncover additional details about the crime and identify potential other victims or suspects involved.
