BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Louisville man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing used cooking oil from multiple restaurants in Bowling Green.
According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded around 3:24 a.m. Thursday to a report involving a box truck suspected in a series of oil thefts. Witnesses reportedly observed the thefts, which were also captured on surveillance footage.
Troopers later stopped the vehicle at mile marker 5 on Interstate 65 and detained the driver, identified as 23-year-old Kevin Caballero-Oduardo.
A witness told police he saw two individuals siphoning used cooking oil from several restaurants, including Smokey Bones, Longhorn Steakhouse, Sonny’s BBQ, Hardee’s, and Cracker Barrel. The oil, once collected in containers, was said to be the property of a licensed grease service company.
Upon searching the truck, troopers found multiple containers filled with an estimated $1,400 worth of used oil.
Caballero-Oduardo was arrested and booked into the Warren County Regional Jail. He is charged with:
Theft by unlawful taking (between $1,000 and $10,000)
Receiving stolen property (between $1,000 and $10,000)
Authorities have not confirmed the identity or whereabouts of the second suspect at this time.
