COOK COUNTY, Ill. — An 18-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested Friday night after leading Palatine police on a short chase and discarding a loaded handgun, authorities said.
Kevin Antonio was spotted around 8:10 p.m. in the 1800–1900 block of North Green Lane, an area from which he had previously been barred. As officers approached him for criminal trespassing, Antonio fled—initially on a bicycle, then continuing on foot.
During the pursuit, police said Antonio pulled a handgun from his waistband and tossed it over a fence in the 1700 block of Clear Creek Bay. Officers later recovered the loaded firearm.
The chase ended in the 1900 block of North Baldwin Road, where Antonio was taken into custody without further incident.
He now faces the following charges:
Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (loaded firearm) — Class 4 felony
Resisting or obstructing a peace officer — Class A misdemeanor
Criminal trespass to property — Class B misdemeanor
Antonio appeared in court Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago and was released pending his next appearance, scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
