Wichita Man Sentenced for 2021 Deadly Nightclub Shooting
Keshawn Dawson receives 35 years in prison for murder and battery charges.
A Wichita man convicted of fatally shooting a bartender at an Old Town nightclub was sentenced Friday. Keshawn Dawson, 26, was handed a 431-month (35 years, 11 months) prison term by a Sedgwick County District Court judge, along with 36 months of post-release supervision. Dawson was also ordered to pay over $24,000 in restitution to the Kansas Crime Victims Compensation Board and an extradition fee of more than $3,100.
In May, Dawson pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless murder and six counts of aggravated battery following the 2021 shooting at Enigma nightclub. The attack resulted in the death of well-known bartender Preston Spencer, 34, and left six others injured.
According to authorities, Dawson was involved in an altercation at the club on September 7, 2021, and was asked to leave. He returned shortly after with a handgun and fired multiple shots through the nightclub’s windows. Dawson fled the state, but was eventually apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Arizona and extradited back to Sedgwick County to face justice.
