Coimbatore: Kuniyamuthur police arrested a 33-year-old man from Kerala on Saturday for smuggling methamphetamine into Coimbatore. The accused has been identified as H Hasnool Rahman, a resident of Malappuram district, Kerala.
The arrest was made during a vehicle check at the Sugunapuram check post, conducted by Kuniyamuthur police along with a special team. Police stopped a car bearing a Kerala registration number and, upon searching the vehicle, recovered 90 grams of methamphetamine. Rahman was immediately detained for questioning.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that he was smuggling methamphetamine from Kerala and selling it to youths in and around Coimbatore. Police said he sold one gram of the drug for ₹3,000.
A case has been registered against him under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police seized the contraband along with the car used for smuggling.
Hasnool Rahman was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the drug supply network.
