In a significant breakthrough against synthetic drug trafficking, Fort police have arrested Anuvin, 22, a key accused in an inter-state MDMA smuggling racket. A native of Kerala, Anuvin was apprehended in Bengaluru on Monday following a targeted investigation.

The arrest was made after police earlier caught Gopakumar of Muttathara with 32 grams of MDMA. During interrogation, Gopakumar revealed that the drugs originated from Bengaluru. Acting on this lead, a special investigation team, directed by the Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner, raided paying guest (PG) hostels in Bengaluru, eventually arresting Anuvin.

Police said Anuvin was instrumental in supplying MDMA and other synthetic drugs across multiple Kerala districts, including Thiruvananthapuram. His operation involved middlemen and targeted Malayali students residing in PG hostels. Using social media, he befriended youngsters and initially introduced them to small doses of MDMA before recruiting them into the drug trade.

The investigation uncovered that drugs worth several lakhs had been trafficked into Kerala over the past year through this network.

Anuvin was produced before the court and remanded in custody.

The operation was led by Fort ACP Shibu, SHO Sivakumar, SIs Atul Prem and Suresh Sreekumar, with support from senior CPOs Sijumon, Sreejith, and Arya.
