MCCOOK, Neb. (KOLN) — A McCook woman, 49-year-old Kenya Wheat, was arrested on Friday after firing a gun near a 16-year-old during a dispute, according to the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene around 12:42 p.m. following a report of a firearm incident. Court documents reveal that Wheat became upset when some pills were spilled on the floor, prompting an argument with a man. As the teenager began cleaning up the spilled pills, Wheat retrieved a handgun and stepped outside. Wheat then fired a single shot near the teen. Deputies recovered the handgun and spent casing at the scene.

Wheat was arrested by Nebraska State Patrol and transported to North Platte Jail on charges including attempted class 2 felony, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and terroristic threats. Her bond was set at 10% of $500,000.

The incident is under further investigation.
