SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Kendrick McGee Jr., 29, was arrested Sunday morning near U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman after being accused of stealing from a vehicle and fleeing police.
The incident began when the victim noticed their car had been broken into and reported it to Sherman police. The victim provided officers with a description of McGee, who was subsequently spotted near the crime scene. When officers pursued him, McGee fled into a nearby wooded area but was quickly apprehended.
Upon investigation, police found that McGee had left three unsupervised small children in a nearby hotel room along with two stolen firearms. The victim’s stolen belongings from the car were also recovered from the hotel room.
Lieutenant Sam Boyle emphasized the seriousness of such thefts, stating, “To have something stolen from you… it really isn’t trivial. Your personal space and privacy have been invaded.”
The children were safely returned to their family members.
McGee now faces multiple charges including theft of property, evading arrest, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and three counts of abandoning a child. Additionally, he had six outstanding warrants and is a convicted felon.
He was taken into custody at the Grayson County Jail.
