Former NFL cornerback Kelvin Joseph has been arrested after a fatal collision in Texas that took the life of 27-year-old motorcyclist Cody Morris. The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday on North Central Expressway in Richardson.
Richardson police confirmed Joseph, 25, currently playing for the DC Defenders in the United Football League, reported his involvement in the crash. He was driving a BMW sedan northbound when the collision with the motorcycle happened.
Officers observed signs of intoxication while speaking with Joseph at the scene. He was subsequently arrested and charged with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated and felony Collision Involving Personal Injury or Death, a second-degree felony under Texas law.
The misdemeanor relates to his alleged intoxication, while the felony charge is due to the fatal nature of the crash. The Richardson Police Department shared on social media that Joseph self-reported his involvement in the incident.
Joseph began his professional career as a second-round draft pick for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. He played 10 games in his rookie season, registering 16 combined tackles and two passes defended.
His NFL career faced setbacks after a 2022 offseason incident, where Joseph was a passenger in a vehicle from which shots were fired, resulting in one fatality. Police cleared Joseph of any shooting involvement, and the NFL chose not to suspend him.
After the Cowboys, Joseph had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and Indianapolis Colts in 2023 before joining the UFL’s DC Defenders.
The UFL acknowledged Joseph’s arrest but declined further comment.
