A 24-year-old Chicago woman, Keithina Brisco Edwards, was arrested Saturday morning in Gurnee, hours after allegedly shooting a man on the city’s West Side.
Police say the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. inside a residential building on the 4000 block of West Grenshaw Street, when Edwards approached the 33-year-old man and shot him in the leg. The victim was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Despite a response from officers and a SWAT team, the shooter had already fled the scene. Later that morning, at approximately 11:53 a.m., Edwards was located and arrested in the 100 block of O’Plaine Road in Gurnee.
Edwards now faces a felony charge of attempted first-degree murder. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other, though it is noted that Edwards lived on the same block as the shooting.
She is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday.
