HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A high-speed chase through Tangipahoa Parish ended in the arrest of Kedrick Carlson, 39, after he attempted to flee deputies during an ongoing drug investigation on Thursday, April 17.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO), deputies spotted Carlson in the Ponchatoula area towing a trailer with a lawnmower. When they attempted a traffic stop, Carlson reportedly fled, prompting a pursuit with assistance from Ponchatoula and Hammond police.
The chase ended in Chappapeela Park in Hammond, where Carlson allegedly jumped out of his still-moving vehicle and tried to flee on foot. Deputies quickly apprehended him.
Upon arrest, several pill bottles were reportedly found on Carlson, and a firearm was located nearby, which deputies believe he tossed from the truck during the chase.
Carlson is now facing the following charges:
Possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance
Possession of a CDS while in possession of a firearm
Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
Aggravated obstruction of a highway
Aggravated flight from an officer
Resisting an officer
At the time of his arrest, Carlson also had active warrants, including:
Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a peace officer
Distribution of heroin
Violation of probation and parole (P&P)
Carlson remains in custody as the investigation continues. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office emphasized the collaborative effort between departments in bringing the situation under control.
