HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Kaulana Freitas, a cousin and confessed enforcer of the notorious crime boss Mike Miske, was sentenced to three years in federal prison on Thursday.
Freitas, 35, admitted to carrying out illegal activities to maintain his position within Miske’s criminal organization. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Freitas pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering and using a chemical weapon.
In his testimony from last year, Freitas detailed his involvement in a 2017 chemical attack at two popular Honolulu nightclubs. He revealed that he was instructed to release a dangerous pesticide into the crowded venues, an order he followed to please Miske.
As part of his sentence, Freitas must report to federal prison by February 27, 2025.
Mike Miske, the criminal mastermind behind the enterprise, was found dead on December 1, 2024, at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. Miske had been awaiting his sentencing for a life sentence, which was scheduled for January 30, 2025, before his untimely death.
