OKLAHOMA CITY — Kassandra Escobar, 32, currently held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, is facing new charges after authorities discovered a large amount of fentanyl in her cell.
Following a tip, law enforcement conducted a targeted search inside the detention center on Thursday. During the search, officers confiscated 39 grams of fentanyl from Escobar’s belongings. The substance was confirmed as fentanyl through testing.
Paul Timmons, interim CEO of the detention center, stressed the dangers fentanyl poses within correctional facilities. “This discovery highlights the ongoing risks fentanyl creates inside the jail and the need for vigilant intelligence gathering,” he said. “Our staff acted promptly to remove this deadly drug, ensuring the safety of both staff and inmates. I commend their dedication and professionalism.”
Escobar was originally booked on Monday by Oklahoma City Police, charged with aggravated trafficking of illegal drugs and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The fentanyl seizure has led to an additional count of aggravated trafficking against her.
